The Massage Therapy Advisory Committee (MTAC) was established by the State Medical Board of Ohio on August 11, 1999 to assist the Board and its Limited Branch and Alternative Medicine Committee as it addresses issues regarding the regulation of the practice of massage therapy and the education, training and licensure of Licensed Massage Therapists in the State of Ohio.

Scope of the Committee:

The Committee reviews and submits recommendations to the Board concerning the following:

  • Education, testing, and registration requirements for LMTs;

  • Existing and proposed rules pertaining to the practice of massage therapy;

  • Application procedures and forms for certificates for LMTs;

  • Registration and renewal fees required by Chapter 4731., O.R.C.;

  • Any other issues on which the Board seeks guidance from the Committee

Requirements for Committee Members:

To be eligible for appointment to the MTAC, a person must hold a current, unrestricted license to practice massage therapy in the State of Ohio.  The Board attempts to assure representation of all viewpoints within the massage therapy community statewide by seeking to appoint representatives of the different massage therapy professional associations, school representatives, private practitioners, and members from geographically distinct areas of the State.
