INTERNATIONAL GUILD OF PROFESSIONAL ELECTROLOGISTS, INC.

1.  Preface:

Guild members shall be dedicated to providing the highest standards of competence in the practice of their profession as well as compliance with this code of professional ethics.

2.  Regarding licensure:

a.  Shall comply with the statutes, rules and regulations of the  State in which they practice.
b.  Shall not misrepresent professional qualifications or credentials.
c.  Shall strive to obtain continuing education on a regular basis.
d.  Shall not aid or abet, directly or indirectly, the practice of any person who is not duly licensed, if the State in which they practice requires licensure.
e.  Shall use only probe-type electrolysis devices which are presently considered the only effective system of permanent epilation.
f.  Shall display certificates of training and/or license as appropriate to the practice.
g.  Shall use only laser and/or light based systems cleared by the FDA for Permanent Hair Reduction.

3.  Regarding the practitioner, the Electrologist:

a.  Shall deal with colleagues and patients with honesty and integrity.
b.  Shall maintain their person as a professional by appearance and decorum.
c.  Shall maintain the office premises in a sanitary and hygienic manner.
d.  Shall follow the recommendations of the Sterilization and Infection Control Standards adopted by the Guild.
e.  Shall not disparage a colleague, but shall report incompetence, malpractice, or malfeasance, in writing, to the grievance committee of the International Guild of Professional Electrologists, Inc. and/or the State Board of regulation if the state is licensed.

4.  Regarding the patient/client, the Electrologist:

a.  Shall maintain an accurate medical history and treatment protocol for each patient/client.
b.  Shall recognize the confidentiality of the patient/client – electrologist relationship and shall not release medical information without authorization.
c.  Shall not offer guarantee or warranty beyond the skill of competence.
d.  Shall not advertise claims which are misleading, untrue and insupportable by fact.
e.  Shall disclose professional fees, as well as policies regarding cancellation of appointments and arrangements for payment, prior to the initial appointment.
